The strange and surprising results from the first three rounds of the World Junior Championships U20 in Turkey brought unexpected leaders in the very beginning of the competition. The junior section after round 4 has a sole leader - GM Eltaj Safarli, who managed to win against GM Bassem Amin. At the same time the only player who could have equal points as well, IM Sanikidze, lost from GM Li Chao. Things look great for GM Eltaj Safarli, but he should not relax as he has GM David Howell, GM Yifan Hou, GM Ante Brkic, GM Li Chao and Lin Chen only half a point behind.
WFM Tatev Abrahamyan is the sole leader of the girls section of the World Junior Chess Championships after a nice victory over WIM Majdan with black. The draw between Mariya Muzhichuk and Harika at board 1 left Tatev Abrahamyan alone at the top with 4,0/4. Similar to the junior section she should not relax as only half a point behind she has IM Harika, WGM Muzychuk, WIM Dauletova, and WIM Mary Ann Gomez.
Tomorrow top board pairings are GM Howell - GM Safarli, GM Li Chao - GM Brkic, Lin Chen - WGM Yifan Hou, WFM Abrahamyan - IM Harika, WIM Gomez - WGM Muzychuk, and WIM Dauletova - WFM Hoolt.
