European Individual Chess Championship, Plovdiv 2008

first photo impressions from the EICC

The European Individual Chess Championship for men and women started in Plovdiv with a nice opening ceremony. It was a typical opening ceremony – many official guests and traditional dances. The officially announced guest speaker – the Prime minister of Bulgaria Sergey Stanishev – was not present, but speaches were given by Boris Kutin (president of the ECU), Vesela Lecheva (one of the main supporters of Kamsky – Topalov bid in Bulgaria), the transportation minister Mutafchiev, the mayor of the municipity of Plovdiv, Atanasov, and some other local governors.

After the general formalities, the ceremony continued with nice traditional dances performed by a professional dance group. Here is a photo report from the opening ceremony by the Chessdom photographers IM Dejan Bojkov and Milena Stefanova. Pairings will be available at 10 CET Monday and all the photos can be seen in the Plovdiv 2008 photo gallery (which is part of the Chessdom photo gallery).
